In Barrie toboggan hills are empty and bare, even Christmas decorations appear sad standing in the melting snow. Winter boots have been traded in for rain boots.

“It's too bad, everybody loves snow at Christmas and it doesn't look like we're getting it, we're getting rain instead," said Barrie resident Chris Ivany, who disappointed with the lack of snow.

Warm air, rain and strong winds are in the forecast and that means we could see new records for Christmas.

Environment Canada’s senior climatologist says there is no hope for a white Christmas for many people across the country.

“We're going to share this with most Canadians, 85 percent of Canadians will not see a white Christmas, because of the fact that we're seeing this tropical air coming into our area, we're going to have thunder storms, warm rains, and record temperatures," said Dave Philips.

The last green Christmas in the Barrie area was in 2011.

While all appears calm on Christmas Eve, Environment Canada warns the weather will quickly change Wednesday night. The national weather agency has issued several warnings and special weather statements for most of Ontario.  A low pressure system is making its way across Lake Huron on Christmas Eve and will bring strong wind gusts up to 100 km/hour and possibly isolated thunderstorms

Forecasters expect temperatures to drop back down to seasonal by the weekend and to stay that way for the rest of winter.
