One person is dead after a crash involving multiple vehicles, including a motorcycle, on Highway 400 this afternoon.

The northbound lanes of Highway 400 have been shut down in Barrie after the multi-vehicle collision, which happened near the Dunlop St. off-ramp in Barrie around 4:30 p.m. and involved two vehicles and a motorcycle, Ontario Provincial Police say.

“We have confirmed that one person is deceased as a result of the collision,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says.

One person was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while three others taken to hospital as a precaution, Schmidt said.

Schmidt said he expects the northbound lanes of the highway to be shut down until around 8:30 p.m. as police investigate.

“Our collision investigators are getting on scene now and they will be doing a thorough investigation to determine what happened,” Schmidt said.

“Unfortunately the 400 is not going to be an option for anybody. You’re going to need to plan alternate routes,” Schmidt said. “Plan to have major delays at this point. Unfortunately this is going to (cause) major delays on traffic.”

The right southbound lane is open. Two left southbound lanes are still closed.

OPP say drivers should get off the 400 at Highway 89, Innisfil Beach Road, Mapleview Drive, or Essa Road and take alternate routes like Highway 27 and Highway 11.
