There are only two times each year that collection days are pushed by one day, and the second happens next week on Wednesday for New Year's Day.
No other holidays during the year impact curbside collection schedules.
Christmas trees will be collected weekly on collection day from the end of the driveway. Trees must be free of any decorations, plastic wrap and bags, and can’t exceed six feet in length.
Changes in 2025
The new automated curbside cart collection program kicks off in the fall, with new carts delivered to residences in the summer.
Each residence will receive a free 240-litre garbage cart and a 120-litre organics cart with gravity lock. Residents will continue using the blue and grey recycling bins.
Between February 3 and the end of March, residents can preview the carts and swap out the 240-litre garbage cart for a smaller version, if desired.
The new carts will be available to preview at several locations:
- Service Barrie, 1st floor City Hall, 70 Collier Street
- East Bayfield Community Centre, 80 Livingstone Street East
- Allandale Recreation Centre, 190 Bayview Drive
- Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, 171 Mapleton Avenue
- Parkview Centre, 189 Blake Street
- Barrie Public Library Downtown Branch, 60 Worsley Street
- Barrie Public Library Painswick Branch, 48 Dean Avenue
Properties with more than one dwelling unit can request additional carts at no charge between February 3 and March 31.
Once carts have been delivered, there will be a $50 fee to exchange for a new size starting October 25.
