A small school in Grey County that's been in danger of closing may get a new lease on life.

Staff with the Bluewater District School Board are recommending a one year reprieve for the Beavercrest School in Markdale.

The recommendation comes after several community players offered to help save the school, including offers of cash.  The Municipality of Grey Highlands, along with Chapman’s Ice Cream, and another local company have all been pushing for a partnership to save the school.

The extension would allow for a more robust exploration of that potential partnership and how it could keep the school open.

Trustees will vote on the one year extension at a meeting on April 18.
