Fire officials are trying to determine what caused a fire in Orillia this morning

The fire started just before 11 a.m. on Atlantis Drive. Orillia Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Kirk tells CTV News there was nobody home at the time of the fire and it appears it started in the back of the house. The home was destroyed, and police say neighbouring homes were damaged as well.

The owner of home told CTV News that  four people lived at the home: a couple and their two young children. A dog was home at the time of the fire and did not survive.

Officials are not treating the fire as suspicious and damage is believed to be over $300,000.

Kirk says the windy conditions made it a challenge to fight the fire.
