Details: The Tiny Marsh BioBlitz is back! Join expert naturalists and discover the amazing diversity of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, fish and plants that live within this expanse of marsh, forest and field north-west of Elmvale. A BioBlitz is an intense search for as many species as possible in a given space over a given time period. The search is for variety, not quantity – so each species gets counted only once, no matter how many individuals are seen. For Tiny Marsh Blitzers, the space is the provincial wildlife area’s approximately 900 hectares. Tiny Marsh is recognized as an Important Bird Area, a globally significant habitat for the conservation of bird populations. Come for just one activity, all day, or part of the day. Our children's activities attract more interest every year and we're delighted to help introduce the wonders of nature to the next generation. Early-bird activities begin at 6am, when the bird groups head out to find waterfowl, songbirds and raptors at the time of day during which they are most active. Our formal welcome is at 9:45 at the Nature Centre followed by a variety of guided activities beginning at 10am. We will break for lunch from noon - 1pm. Please bring your own packed lunch. A second round of guided activities begins at 1pm followed by at sharing circle at 3pm. This year we will finish the day with a special sunset activity from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

Saints & Sinners
Date: Sunday, June 23 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Location: Owen Sound - Moreston Heritage Village - 102599 Grey Road 18
Details: Beer. Wine. Cider. History. In the late 1800s, the town of Sydenham (Owen Sound) was known as “the fightin’est, drinkin’est, whorin’est town in the province of Ontario”. Nicknamed Corkscrew Town, it was known across the country as the place to go for a good time, because the bars never closed. Not everyone was thrilled about this reputation. The ladies of the community formed the very first branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and began the long hard battle of banning the booze. By 1905 the sale of alcohol was prohibited in Owen Sound, and in 1917 National Prohibition was enacted, bringing the wild party to a grinding halt – but only briefly. Alcohol went underground and bootleggers and blind pigs flourished throughout the County. It’s time to find out: are you a Saint or a Sinner? Saints & Sinners brings Moreston Heritage Village to life with the colourful history of Grey County during the prohibition & bootlegging era. Dress in your 1920s best and taste samples from local beer, wine, cider, and spirits producers. Snack on delicious food from local vendors. Learn the Charleston and get moving with live music. Pop into the local Speakeasy, the Black Rabbit. And watch out for the prohibition protests, the rowdy partiers, and the paddy wagon scooping up trouble makers! Event is 19+ only. Guests under 19 years of age may not attend this event.
