Winter in the Wild Festival

Barrie-Allandale Model Train Show

13th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament

Family Day Weekend at Scenic Caves

Details:    Celebrate Family Day weekend with outdoor adventures for all ages. Family Day Weekend Activities:

  • Cross-country skiing – Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced classic/ skate skier, there are 27 km. of trails to explore.
  • Snowshoeing – If you can walk, you can snowshoe, making it a fun family activity for all ages. There are 10 km. of dedicated paths to explore.
  • Southern Ontario’s longest Suspension Bridge – snowshoe over it, or if you are skiing, take your skis off at the top of the hill and walk down to the breathtaking views.

Dorset Snowball Winter Carnival
Date:      Friday, February 15 & Saturday, February 16
Location: Dorset - Dorset Recreation Centre & Main Street
Details:    Snowball hosts a bevy of winter activities such as a pancake breakfast, skating, horse-drawn wagon rides, Snow snake games (you have to attend to find out what they are!), hockey shoot-out, kids vs adult hockey game, Hockey Night in Dorset and more! People can come in the Rec Centre to warm up and to see the excellent entertainment in the main hall in the Rec Centre between 8am and 3pm. Local groups will be selling draw tickets and hosting a silent auction while the entertainment happens. Knox United Church and St. Mary Magdalene's Anglican Church provide coffee, tea, hot chocolate and sweets in the Rec Centre. People can come in, have a seat, warm up and have a wonderful homemade treat. Check out the live entertainment in the Snowball Cafe. The Lifeliners, a volunteer group of local women who do catering to donate all their proceeds back to the community provide a hot lunch. Anyone who has sampled this home cooking knows to order in advance as they always sell out.

Inaugural Family Day at Drysdale's

Frost Festival

Details:    This is a completely free fun filled day of outdoor activity and recreation for the entire family.  There is everything from horse drawn wagon rides, pony rides, snowman building, snowshoeing and sled dog rides around the park.  For those seeking a bit more extreme sport, join the Polar Bear Challenge to help raise funds with the Lion’s Club for the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation and The Hospital for Sick Kids Music Therapy Program.  See attached schedule for a full list of activities. Family Day Weekend at Friday Harbour
Date:      Saturday, February 16 to Monday, February 18
Location: Innisfil – Friday Harbour - 311 Big Bay Point Rd
Details:    Gather your family and head down to Friday Harbour for plenty of exciting activities inside and out. From magicians to horse-drawn wagons, crafts to scavenger hunts and all sorts of outdoor fun like skating parties, snowshoe tours and snow baseball this weekend will be one for the books. Ice sculptors and wood carvers will be putting on live demonstrations around the campfire as hot drinks and steaming bowls of chili are served at the Beach Club Window. Kids can build a new plush friend at our build-a-buddy station and savour sticky maple taffy on a stick. Guests can explore even more of the Resort on snowshoes, cross-country skis and fat bikes* which are available for rent at the Harbour Master Building. A spectacular fireworks display will be featured on Saturday night. Gaze up in wonder as you cuddle by the campfire or stroll down the boardwalk. PARKING Guests can park in the East Parking lot at the intersection of Sea Ray Avenue and Sunreef Avenue. Shuttles will be on site to drive Guests down to the Harbour Master Building and skating rink. *All rentals will be first-come, first-served. All activities and rentals are weather permitting. When applicable, participants will be required to sign a waiver prior to partaking in an activity. Fat bikes are only available in adult sizes. Fat bikes, Build-A-Buddy, and Guided Snowshoe can be booked in advance.

Lake Simcoe Championship Ice Fishing Derby

Details:    The 4th Annual Lake Simcoe Championship Ice Fishing Derby Presented by Canadian Tire Keswick.
1st prize $10,000! Not only are there 10 cash prizes from $10,000 to $250, but as a bonus there's extra random draw prizes!  All participants are entered but must be at the Awards Ceremony to win. For Canadian Residents, no fishing license is required for this event as it coincides with the Family Fishing Events weekend. Family Day at Simcoe County Museum

Details:    Experience old-fashioned Family Day fun at the Simcoe County Museum. Fill your Family Day with skating, snowshoeing, sledding, and so much more. Glide through the Museum grounds on our beautiful Skating Trail. Snowshoe through our forested trails or sled down our toboggan hill. Cap off a great day by exploring the Museum's indoor galleries. It's a holiday, so enjoy all these activities and more at your own pace and schedule.  All activities are included with your event admission for the day. Bring your own skates, helmets and toboggans – snowshoe rentals are available free of charge.

71st Annual Penetanguishene Winterama

Annual Seguin Sled Dog Mail Run
Date:      Saturday, February 16 from 8am to 2pm
Location: Seguin - Village of Humphrey - On Hwy 141
Details:    Every year since 1985, envelopes with letters prepared especially for this event, are gathered, loaded onto sleds and several dog teams haul it to Rosseau, Ontario, 17 km through the bush on groomed trails.
Teams gather and leave from the Village of Humphrey, Ontario, on Highway 141, to the cheers and good wishes from the many spectators and friends as the teams disappear in the bush on their way to the Rosseau Post Office to be received by the Post Mistress. The sledvelopes are hand stamped, a very old method of cancelling mail. These "sledvelopes" have become collector items all over the world. What a wonderful surprise for a child, or even adult, to receive mail which has travelled by dogsled, pulled by eager Siberian Huskies. Bonfire and public sled dog rides following the Run.

Snowman Mania
Date:      Friday, February 15 to Monday, February 18
Location: Wasaga Beach – Various locations throughout Wasaga Beach
Details:    We will officially kick off the 14th annual Snowman Mania with a party for all ages. The Kick-Off Party will include some fantastic Canadian music talents including Rebecca Rain (Rebeccarain.ca) at 6:00pm opening for the Mud Men (mudmen.ca) at 7:30pm.  Indoor and outdoor children's activities, which will include inflatables, balloon twisters, face painting and more. Also, savor the memories of the night with our photo booth! Cozy up beside one of the outdoor fire pits and watch the Fireworks show that promises to be a spectacle experience! Swing by for the evening or come-and-go as you please. This event will surely create some everlasting memories! Activities include: Friday Night BINGO, Yoga, Pop up hockey rink, tobogganing, pancake breakfast, Outdoor Skating, Shinny, village market, Superdogs, Cross Country Skiing, and more!

Ramona's Annual Winterfest 2019
Date:      Saturday, February 16 from 10am to 50m
Location: Washago - Ramona Hall - 2212 Fairgrounds Road
Details:    Join us on Saturday, February 16th, 2019 for a fun-filled family event.  This year's theme is Wild West 'Western Cowboys & Cowgirls'. Enjoy a Cross Country Poker Run, Walk, Ski or Snowshoe. Our hard-packed trail is carved through the forest, circling around a large beaver pond.  Keep your eyes open for deer, moose and wild turkey tracks. Several large owls have been spotted as well. The four check points along the trail guarantee you a warm welcome and a chance to draw that winning hand. Depart the Hall anytime between 10:00am & 2:00 pm. There are no departures from the hall after 2:00 pm in order that everyone (including our guys and gals at the checkpoints) to get back to the hall by 4:00 pm. You must be back to the hall by 4:00 pm for your hand to be entered for the cash prizes!  Also enjoy a Euchre Tournament, Children’s Craft Corner (no extra charge) and Silent Auction.

Snowshoe Ecotours

Details:    Experience areas of the Wye Marsh that are otherwise not open to the general visiting public! After a brief lesson on the art of snowshoeing, you will head out in search of the many mysteries that animal tracks & signs present while being followed by hungry chickadees that like to eat right out of your hand!  No snowshoeing experience required, but please note that the trail conditions are considered moderate and at times 'off the beaten path'. 

Winter Pursuits

Details:    Exclusively run outdoors, this program will focus on embracing all that winter has to offer! From snowshoe obstacle courses & bannock roasting to shelter building & animal tracking, participants will learn new skills, uncover some of winter’s mysteries and have fun outdoors!

Under the Stars Snowshoeing & Yoga

Details: Enjoy a guided interpretive snowshoe through the forests of Snow Valley, gather around a bonfire before enjoying de-stressing & rejuvenating Yoga session (1.25hrs). Close out your evening with a cleansing refreshment. Equipment provided - snowshoes/poles/headlamp/yoga mat. Certified Yoga Instructor. This event can be enjoyed by everyone and will be spectacular under the beautiful night sky & lights of Snow Valley.

Moonlight Snowshoe

Location: Barrie – Horseshoe Resort - 1101 Horseshoe Valley Road West
Details:    Perfect for the whole family! Snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy the trails while also getting some exercise! Using the moonlight and your own headlamp (which we provide!), enjoy a 2km moonlight snowshoe through the forest. Afterwards, enjoy some marshmallows and hot chocolate by the roaring fire! We are a pet friendly resort, which means you are welcome to bring your furry friend along with you.

Moonlight Snowshoeing & Chilli Cookout

This event can be enjoyed by everyone and will be spectacular under the stars!


Guided Night Snowshoe Adventure

Location: Collingwood Area (The Blue Mountain) – Scenic Caves - 260/280 Scenic Caves Rd
Details: Strap on your snowshoes for a night-time hike, where stars and shadows create a dramatic setting for adventure. Professional guides lead you on a 1 ½ to 2 hour romp through an enchanting winter wonderland. Beautiful trails wind through a mature forest of 100 foot tall trees and spectacular lookouts from the top of the Niagara Escarpment. The headlamps illuminate your path of glistening powder snow creating an enchanting world of continually changing shapes. It’s both mysterious and exhilarating. There are a variety of animals and tracks to keep an eye out for – porcupines, deer, racoons, rabbits and winter birds. Did you hear the cry of a snowy owl? The climb up to “Lookout point” is well worth the effort. On a clear night you view the glow of the ski hills and the sparkling lights of villages and towns. You stride with rhythm beside shallow creeks, through open fields, up and down the rises and falls of the silhouetted backdrop. With the crunch of snow under your feet, you descend down the Escarpment to the 420 ft. suspension footbridge where the expansive glittering panorama against the stark black shadow of Georgian Bay takes your breath away. Upon returning to the main cabin, you’re greeted with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.

Arrowhead Ice Trail Fire & Ice Nights

Location: Huntsville Area – Arrowhead Provincial Park - 451 Arrowhead Park Rd
Details: Arrowhead Ice Trail Fire & Ice Night is run throughout the season on specific days (weather permitting – always phone ahead to ensure the ice trail is open and operating before heading out). On these days, the Ice Trail is available during the day from 11am-3pm, closed from maintenance and flooding from 3pm-6pm, and then re-opened for the Fire & Ice skating between 6pm-9pm. During the Fire & Ice night, the trail will be lit with tiki torches to light your way as you skate through the forested trail at night!

Never Ever Day
