A freezing rain warning is in effect for Muskoka, with slippery roads and power outages possible.

Environment Canada expects the freezing rain to hit Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, and surrounding areas late Monday evening into early Tuesday morning.

The weather agency noted the low-pressure system could create heavy freezing rain at times, which is expected to transition to rain or snow by morning.

“Some ice accretion is possible on surfaces, possibly two to four millimetres of ice accretion,” Environment Canada stated. “A few areas east of Georgian Bay and across Algonquin may see about five centimetres of snow accumulation late overnight into Tuesday morning.”

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain is expected to fall in sub-zero temperatures, which can create slick surfaces and an ice build-up.
