Three people were taken to hospital and two dogs had to be rescued after a kitchen fire in Barrie on Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out at a home on D’Ambrosio Drive at around 5:30 a.m. An adult and two children were home at the time; the family was alerted to the fire thanks to a smoke alarm.

The trio was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. Two family dogs also had to be rescued by Barrie firefighters.

Damage is estimated at $40,000, as investigators continue to probe the scene.
