The Ministry of Labour and police are investigating a stabbing at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishene.

Police said three staff members were injured in an incident Tuesday afternoon.

According to the ministry, three workers were struck in the head and face by a patient. One person was stabbed with a screw driver.

"Three staff were taken to hospital, treated and released yesterday," said Laurene Hilderley, Waypoint's director of  communications and fund development. "We are focused on supporting everyone involved and we are committed to caring for the needs of staff and patients at this time."

Waypoint officials said a comprehensive investigation is underway and mitigation strategies have already been implemented.

An investigator with the Ministry of Labour was back at Waypoint Wednesday.

The OPP's crime unit is assisting with the investigation.
