The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) says the estimated insured damage done by the tornado in Angus is at least $30 million.

The tornado hit Angus June 17, 2014 and damaged more than 100 homes, forcing people to emergency shelters or the homes of friends and family during the clean-up.

The IBC says the amount of insured damages reported is a preliminary estimate by Property Claim Services (PCS), which tracks insured losses after catastrophic events in Canada.

Angus residents who have questions can contact their insurance representatives or call the IBC at 1-800-387-2880.

The Township of Essa has told the province it needs over $10 million in disaster relief funding to cover the cost of cleaning up and repairing the damage, but that’s only a preliminary estimate. Making the request for disaster relief money from the province is only the first step in the process, however.

Town officials say they are hoping to hear back soon if they qualify, and in the meantime plan on getting a committee together to manage the fundraising and donations they’ve already collected.
