The Township of Essa could apply for $10 million in funding to help tornado recovery efforts.
Essa Mayor Terry Dowdall tells CTV News the town held a special meeting today to approve the request.
Dowdall says there is still a lot of work to do before the request and the number are official. So far $76,000 has been raised for the community.
Relief funding will be dispersed by a committee of six people, Dowdall says, which will decide how to dole out the money.
There is no timeline on when the funding could come from the province.
Essa had to submit its application to the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program within 14 work days of the disaster. The tornado touched down June 17 and devastated homes in an Angus neighbourhood.
