Thousands of workers gathered across the country today to mark Labour Day.

In Barrie, hundreds of people turned out for the 4th-annual Labour Day picnic at Sunnidale Park today. The event was organized by the Confederation of Canadian Unions, the Simcoe County Labour Union, and the Ontario Nurses Association. New this year, the event was open to not-for-profit organizations and charitable groups.

They were offering up food, music, and some fun activities at the free event. And there was plenty of food and entertainment in Washago today for the annual Labour Day picnic there.

The gathering was put together by the North Simcoe, Muskoka and District Labour Council to celebrate all the achievements of their workers.

Labour Day was established to recognize the many contributions workers have made to society.
