Police are searching for a man and woman after they used a fake pregnancy belly to steal approximately $5,000 worth of merchandise from the Best Buy in the south end of Barrie.

Police were called to the store around noon on Saturday after reports of items being taken by the pair.

Police say the man entered the store first and was looking at merchandise while talking on the phone.

The woman entered shortly after, also talking on her phone, and went to where the man was.

The man then took the items out of its packaging and the woman would then put it into her fake pregnancy belly.

They did this several times before leaving the store in a grey minivan.

The man is described as:

  • East Indian
  • Late 30’s
  • 5’10”
  • Approx. 280-300 lbs
  • At the time wearing a grey coat, torque, and scarf

The woman is described as:

  • East Indian
  • Late 30’s
  • At the time wearing a long grey coat, black pants, black boots, and what police believe is a fake pregnancy belly.

A call was made to the Best Buy in Newmarket and employees were able to identify the suspects and the van as they left the parking lot

Police believe the couple is from the Toronto area, and the investigation is continuing.
