A fire that destroyed a home in Orillia last week is being investigated as arson.

The overnight fire on Aug. 11 destroyed the home on Albert Street. The elderly woman who lived there was able to escape thanks to the quick actions of her neighbour.

Orillia fire officials say the fire likely started on a back porch before spreading to the house. Damage is estimated at $400,000.

As a result of the investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire has been deemed suspicious.

The OPP are hoping to speak with anyone who may have seen anything suspicious between Aug. 10 and 11.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
