The man accused of being the bank robber dubbed "The Vaulter" has been returned to Canada.

Jeffrey James Shuman is believed to be responsible for 17 bank robberies in Canada between 2010 and 2015. He was given the nickname “The Vaulter” because he would allegedly jumped over bank counters and demanded money from tellers.

Schuman was arrested in Switzerland last fall. He immediately appealed against extradition – that appeal was denied.

Last month he took things a step further when Canadian authorities tried to fly him home.

"During the flight Mr. Schuman complained of chest pains, which resulted in the flight being diverted to London, England,” says York Regional Police Det. Sgt. Mike Fleischaker said at a news conference on Tuesday.

"From Heathrow Airport he was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and medically cleared for travel with no evidence of any heart issues."

When he got back to the airport to catch a different plane, things became heated.

“Mr. Schuman refused to board the flight and became physically resistant. As a result of his physical behaviour he was refused to board that commercial airline or any other commercial airline."

In the end, officials chartered a private plane, which arrived in Toronto on Saturday.

Schuman is set to appear in a Newmarket court on March 11.
