The man charged with second-degree murder in connection to a fatal stabbing in Wasaga Beach has been identified.

Dillon Childs, 21, of Wasaga Beach appeared before a court in Barrie for a bail hearing on Wednesday morning.

He didn’t say anything during his appearance, only nodding while he stood in the prisoner’s box. Childs has not yet entered a plea.

Outside the court house, Childs' mother made a brief comment about her son's arrest.

"Everything isn't as it appears," she said. "People shouldn't rush to judgement."

Childs is accused of killing Erick Tellos-Arias over the Victoria Day long weekend in Wasaga Beach.

According to the OPP, the 23-year-old Caledon man died of an apparent stab wound on May 23.

Defence lawyer Chris Hanson says he is waiting to see what evidence prosecutors have against his client before the case can move forward.

"We're waiting on disclosure. Everything hinges on disclosure, it may be very strong, it may be a weak case," says Hanson. "We don't know until we get disclosure."

Childs is set to appear back in court via video on June 20.
