It’s beginning to look a whole lot more like Christmas in Muskoka, as nearly 30 centimetres of snow was dumped on Saturday in some areas.

Snow squalls made for treacherous whiteout conditions on many roads, resulting in some minor crashes. At one point, the snow band stretched from the Bruce Peninsula all the way to Bracebridge.

"You couldn’t see where you were going really. The visibility is really, really bad and you're on one path only, so you have to go a lot slower," one driver says.

The snow started falling late Friday night and continued throughout the day. Parts of Muskoka received anywhere from 10 to 20 centimetres, while northern parts of Bracebridge were handed closer to 30 centimetres of the white stuff.

"The driving conditions are absolutely treacherous. Stay off the roads is all I can say,” another driver said.

Not everyone was dreading the arrival of snow; some praised the sight of winter-like weather.

"I'm excited for the snow, for snowmobiling, which is nice since we're almost at the first day of winter and there's been no snow, so this is really nice actually," one person said.

However, some residents are skeptical this snow will mean a white Christmas.

"It's a start but we're supposed to have a green Christmas, so this will probably all melt in the next couple of days."
