Liberal candidate Ann Hoggarth has unseated Progressive Conservative Rod Jackson in the riding of Barrie.

CTV News made the call at 10:05 p.m. Hoggarth beat out Jackson, NDP candidate David Bradbury and Green candidate Bonnie North.

Ann Hoggarth has over 25 years of experience in the public education system. She is an elementary school teacher and a past president of the Simcoe County Elementary Teachers Federation.

Riding Profile

The City of Barrie is situated around Kempenfelt Bay on the western shore of Lake Simcoe. The city is growing about five per cent a year and is located about 70 kilometres north of Toronto. More than 60 per cent of the work force has post-secondary education.

The city is home to Georgian College and a Laurentian University campus.

Eleven percent of the city's economy is in advanced manufacturing involving 100 companies.

Barrie has major summer and winter tourism and has become commuter country for Toronto. It is the fourth biggest riding in terms of population.
