According to the Innisfil Fire Chief, unattended cooking is to blame for a house fire in Alcona on Friday night.

Chief Jon Pegg says the fire started in an oven, and then spread to some nearby cupboards within the kitchen.

Fire crews were called to the home on Galloway Street just after 9 p.m, and firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading.

The fire caused approximately $60,000 worth of damage.

There is some smoke damage within the house.

There were no injuries, and officials say the home owners had working smoke alarms.

Chief Pegg is asking residents “to use caution when cooking and never leave cooking food unattended”.
