Christine Elliott is being praised by all parties after announcing today that she is resigning her seat in the Ontario legislature.

Elliott is resigning as the member for Whitby-Oshawa three months after losing her second bid for the party leadership.

Party Leader Patrick Brown issued a statement calling Elliott "a tireless advocate for her constituents and Ontario."

Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne says Elliott could be the fiercest of adversaries in debates, "she was passionate, but never personal" and was "one of the most respected M-P-P's in the house."

New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath said Elliott was "a strong female voice" who always conducted herself with dignity and intelligence, and noted her efforts on behalf of people with disabilities.

Elliott is the widow of former finance minister Jim Flaherty, who represented the same riding federally, and who also lost two different bids to become Ontario's Progressive Conservative leader.

She also had served as the Tory health critic, and says she will stay active in her community helping people with disabilities.
