The victory by John Brassard in Barrie-Innisfil creates the need for a local byelection in Barrie for a city council seat.
Brassard took a leave of absence from his city council seat in Ward 7 when he launched his campaign. Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman tells CTV News he believes council will hold a vote in the near future to clear the way for a byelection.
City officials say that byelection would likely be held in February.
