A Barrie-area manufacturer has received money from the province to help create over a hundred jobs.

The Ontario government announced on Wednesday a $1.5 million investment for Wolf Steel Inc., a fireplace and grill manufacturer. The money will be used in the creation of 176 jobs announced earlier this year. The company will use the investment to start manufacturing HVAC and air condition equipment – items that are currently being made in the United States.

“Upgrading our facilities will help Wolf Steel maintain our competitive edge and diversify our business. We’re proud to bring a product line currently produced in the U.S. to Ontario and to create jobs and contribute to the local economy in Barrie,” said Ron McArthur, president of Wolf Steel.

The announcement comes two months after the federal government revealed a $4.2 million loan for Wolf Steele to help fund the same project and job creation.

The company is expected to fill those positions by 2018.
