A man who was rescued from a burning house in Alliston last week has now been charged with arson.

On February 24th emergency crews responded to a house fire on Dufferin Street around 5:33 a.m.

Fire fighters rescued a man from the basement as well as a woman. Both were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The OPP Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and the Ontario Marshalls office worked together to investigate the cause of the fire.

According to the Nottawasaga OPP, the fire started in the basement.

Arson charge in Alliston house fire

After collecting evidence from the scene police charged the 58-year-old man who was rescued from the basement with arson.

He was held for a bail hearing and released.

His next court appearance will be on March 19th.
