A special event permit has been approved for two concerts at Burl’s Creek.

At a meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Oro-Medonte town council approved a special event permit for the 92 acres at Burl’s Creek that councillors say is already zoned appropriately for the WayHome Music Festival.

A staff report touched on everything from food and beverages to security. A traffic management plan was also discussed in front of nearly 200 people.

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation tells CTV News they have received a transportation plan from Burl’s Creek, but no final permits have been issued. It’s estimated that 12,000 vehicles will bring 40,000 people to the concert venue.

Prior to the meeting a group of people opposed to both WayHome and the Boots and Hearts Music Festival gathered outside of the Oro-Medonte community centre. The group was calling on councillors to stop the concerts before they get started.

The WayHome Music Festival is scheduled to take place July 24 to July 26.
