One man is dead and another is in hospital after a shooting incident in Dysart in the Haliburton Highlands

Provincial police responded to a report of gunshots being fired in the area of Highway 118 and County Road 3 on Sunday, shortly after 6 p.m.

When they arrived, OPP say they found one man dead. Investigators believe the man had been shot.

Another man was found a short time later, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. He was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries.

Highway 118 was closed for several hours. Witnesses say police told them to stay inside, while they searched the area.

The OPP criminal investigation branch, along with the OPP forensic identification services unit are investigating.

On Monday police tape could be seen surrounding a residence on the highway, as officers probed the scene.

Police say there are no outstanding suspects and there is no threat to public safety.
