PowerStream is reporting a drop of 4.2% in electricity use during Earth Hour 2016 on Saturday night.

The event called for people to turn off their lights between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.

PowerStream, which serves nine municipalities – including Barrie, Essa, Bradford and Aurroa, reported a 4.3 per cent drop in electricity consumption during Earth Hour.

However, that was down slightly from the six per cent reduction achieved in 2015.

The global event was launched in Australia in 2007 to draw attention to environmental issues including climate change.
