A police investigator says the vehicle being driven by one of the accused in a fatal 2014 crash was going more than 40 km/h over the speed limit.

Barrie police Const. Chris Allport, a collision reconstruction specialist, calculated the speed of the vehicles at several points along Mapleview Drive, after reviewing multiple surveillance videos and crash evidence.

The Crown alleges the two 17-year-olds were street racing in a BMW and a Mazda 3, when the BMW crashed into Theresa Van Wieren-Wisch’s Toyota as she left a parking lot. She was killed in the crash.

Allport testified on Wednesday that the BMW being driven by one of the young offenders was going 107 km/h when the crash happened.

The defence argues that the calculations for the Mazda shows it was going considerably slower leading up to the crash. Allport did not dispute that.

The trial continues on Thursday.
