There has been a rash of thefts from vehicles recently in the Allandale neighbourhood and that has prompted Barrie police to remind people to lock it or lose it.

Police officers were spread out through the neighbourhood today searching for unlocked vehicles and also vehicles with valuables in plain sight.

Police say thieves have recently been targeting unlocked vehicles in the Allandale area, but say every theft if preventable.

“These are crimes of opportunity,” said staff sergeant Mark Holden. “This is an opportunity for Barrie police to offer a bit of education and advice to people on how they can remove themselves from being a victim.”

Barrie Police will be at the Allandale recreation centre until 8 PM tonight promoting its lock it or lose it campaign and tomorrow at Assikinack public school from 3 pm to 8 pm.
