An Orillia girl who is dealing with a rare condition that keeps her in isolation is getting some help from the Rotary Club.

Aunika Kerr underwent a thymus tissue transplant back in July. That's the part of your body that helps control T-Cells, which are needed for your immune system.

Her parents say the surgery was a success, but it will be some time before Aunika's body fully responds.

The Rotary Club was raising money for the family this weekend because Aunika requires expensive medication that isn't covered by OHIP.

“She literally is the girl in the bubble. Medical costs have been a bit higher and my husband, being an elementary school supply teacher, hasn't been able to go into the school because it puts him at risk, which puts our daughter at a huge risk,” says Maggie Shaw, Aunika’s mother.
