A man, who called police looking for help to get his car started, was handed an impaired driving charge instead.

York Regional Police say they received a call on Tuesday, at around 2:30 a.m. from a man looking for officers to come out and help him start his car.

The man informed the call taker that he was in the area of Bathurst Street and King Road in King Township. Police say the engine could be heard revving in the background.

Officers responded to the area and found the car stopped on the shoulder of the road. The car was running, with both the lights and windshield wipers on.

Investigators say the man showed obvious signs of impairment and was taken to a nearby police station, where the man blew over the legal alcohol limit.

The 27-year-old Richmond Hill man was arrested and charged with impaired driving.

The investigation is ongoing.
