Ice fishing is a very popular sport and brings thousands of visitors to our region looking to take home a large fish but it’s what they are leaving behind that has residents along Lake Simcoe upset.

Jack Gage says aside from loud noise overnight, some people are leaving a mess behind.

“Garbage all over the place, all over the place, I’m constantly going around and picking it up.”

South Simcoe Police says they are aware of the concern.

“It’s fairly regular to get calls this time of year and we’re just letting people know that if they are coming down and by all means do come down – just park nicely, legally and we won’t have any problems,” says Constable Richard Williamson.

The side roads are often packed with cars and where there is a parking lot there are not many spaces available and only a few garbage cans nearby as well.

Innisfil says bylaw officers handed out five tickets over the past week for parking infractions. The town says people must leave 1.5 metres between their vehicle and a private driveway.

The Town of Innisfil says its staff will start handing out information pamphlets to out-of-town fishermen explaining what the rules are on and off the ice.
