Police say they are searching for a group of men who investigators believe carried out at least 15 robberies overnight in the Greater Toronto Area.

Toronto police issued a public safety advisory Thursday morning, warning local businesses about the incidents.

Spokesman Const. David Hopkinson says police believe the spree started on Wednesday night in Halton Region, west of Toronto, with two robberies reported there.

He says the men made their way east, where seven robberies were reported in Peel Region and six in Toronto's west end.

Hopkinson says at least five men took part in the string of robberies between the three jurisdictions.

Police say the men indicated that they were armed with guns and targeted businesses usually open overnight, including gas stations, convenience stores and diners.
