A male pilot was killed when a small plane crashed onto a road in a commercial part of Peterborough early Friday morning, reportedly taking out a traffic light in the process.

It happened near Lansdowne Street and High Street shortly after 1 a.m.

Paramedics responded to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the pilot but pronounced him dead a short time later.

Police say it appears as though the pilot was the only person on board the plane.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined; however police say that the incident “is believed to be a crime.”

As a result, both police and the Transportation Safety Board will conduct full investigations.
