Plans are in the works to build four new GO stations, including some on the Barrie transit line.

The province announced on Tuesday their intention to build stations at Bloor Street and Lansdowne Avenue, St. Clair W. and Keele Street, Spadina Avenue and Front Street, and in Liberty Village.

If approved by the Metrolinx Board of Directors, commuters would be able to get off the train in Toronto before Union Station.

The announcement is part of Toronto Mayor John Tory’s SmartTrack plan.

Transport Minister Steven Del Duca said he met with dozens of people who lived in Liberty Village who “expressed challenges faced by moving around the city.”

The GO stations and trains running within Toronto will eventually be rebranded as RER/SmartTrack as part of the mayor’s plan.
