The Orillia Soldier's Memorial Hospital School of Nursing held its 50th and final reunion Friday evening at the Hawke Ridge Country Club and Golf Course.

The room full of alums featured several graduates from the final 1974 class and others from as far as Alberta and the U.S.

"It's bittersweet with the idea that this is the last 50-year grads, [that] this is the last of the alumni dinners," said Glenna Tinney, president of the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital (OSMH) School of Nursing. "Everything runs its time, and unfortunately, this has also run its time."

The OSMH opened in 1910, and its alumni date back 117 years.

Orillia Mayor Don McIsaac was in attendance and described Friday's final reunion as an event that marks a 'significant' milestone in the community.

The OSMH School of Nursing was closed six years after the Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing closed in 1968.
