Officers arrested a man accused of being impaired after he allegedly drove himself to the Barrie police station.

Police say the accused drove to headquarters on Fairview Road Thursday night to ask whether a family member was in custody.

The officers on duty reported the man displayed "obvious signs of impairment" and placed him under arrest.

A breathalyzer technician then confirmed the accused was impaired, police say.

The 33-year-old man was charged with impaired operation and handed a 90-day licence suspension. The vehicle he arrived at the police station in was also towed to an impound yard for seven days.

"Barrie police are reminding the public that there is zero tolerance when it comes to impaired driving and that anyone who doesn't use available options after consuming alcohol or drugs is putting the lives of others at risk if they choose to drive," the service noted.
