Much-needed upgrades underway at Orillia's Brian Orser Arena

Share

Work is underway to upgrade one of Orillia’s oldest buildings.

The Brian Orser Arena $12.4 million renovation project will breathe new life into the Gill Street facility for the next 20 to 25 years.

Crews are gutting the rink area, including removing rink boards, bleachers, and the concrete rink floor so they can install all new features, such as a new ice pad, timekeeper’s box, scoreboard and players benches, along with a new refrigeration system.

Additionally, new touches will be added to the multi-purpose room, dressing rooms, washrooms, offices and the main entrance.

The upgrades will include a new PA system, upgraded sprinkler and fire safety, and security systems.

There’s also plenty of work being done outside. The roof replacement and extensions to the east and north façade are nearly done.

Plus, crews will reinforce the structural integrity of the 50-year-old building.

The entire project is anticipated to be completed within the 2025/26 ice season.

While construction is underway at the Brian Orser Arena, teams have been moved to the Rotary Place arena.

The City approved the multi-million-dollar renovation project as part of the 2024 Capital Budget.
