Border officers arrest man accused of smuggling banned firearms into Canada

A man from Aurora, Ont. is facing multiple weapons-related charges after Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers intercepted packages reportedly containing various prohibited firearms.

According to the CBSA, officers at international mail and cargo processing facilities in Mississauga and Vancouver seized the falsely declared packages destined for the same address.

Officials say the packages also contained 3D manufacturing equipment, typically used to build AR-15 (semi-automatic rifle) style firearms.

The CBSA says border services officers searched the accused’s home in Aurora in November, and allegedly seized 3D-manufactured prohibited firearms, 3D-printed prohibited devices, a 3D printed restricted firearm, 3D printers, multiple prohibited suppressors and suppressor parts, and various additional AR parts, tools, and accessories.

The 33-year-old man accused in the investigation is scheduled to appear in court this week to answer to the charges.
