Strawberry season comes to an early end

Share

Mother Nature's roller coaster weather recently has brought an early end to strawberry season despite a strong start with record-breaking crops in early June.

"Every weather event we've had in the past two weeks was the exact opposite of what the strawberry crop needed," said Morris Gervais of Barrie Hill Farms.

"The combination of the heat, plus all the rain, just destroyed the whole crop. There is nothing that could have been done to save it."

While the weather conditions may have brought an abrupt end to strawberry season, it is expected to benefit the corn crops, allowing them to kick off a week ahead of schedule.
