Environment Canada says about seven centimetres of snow fell in Orillia up to a few hours ago and Shanty Bay reported about 17 cm up to about 8 a.m. this morning.
And Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says there is a lot more to come for this area, from both the approaching storm system and then the snow squalls that set up Monday and continue on Tuesday thanks to cold northwest winds behind this current system.
Environment Canada has issued freezing rain and snowfall warnings for the entire southern part Ontario as a weather system intensifying in the U.S. makes its way north.
While residents in some parts of the region woke up to snow Sunday morning, the storm is expected to develop heavy snow this afternoon, with up to 25 centimetres forecast in areas north of the GTA.
Blowing and drifting snow will also be likely.
