Police in Barrie are investigating what they believe could be a hit-and-run after an individual was found in the city’s north end Tuesday morning with serious injuries.

Yellow police tape surrounds a large area, blocking Coulter Street from Bayfield Street, and from west of the Travelodge to the Canadian Tire parking lot.

Officers have several evidence markers on Coulter Street as they investigate the incident.

While they believe a pedestrian was likely struck, police say there was no vehicle in the area when officers arrived.

Police tell CTV News the male was taken to the hospital. His identity was not provided.

The area is closed for the investigation. There is no word on when it will reopen.
