A plan to offer more university degrees in Simcoe County was submitted to the province on Friday.

Lakehead University and Georgian College submitted their joint expansion plan to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.

The two schools want to offer more than 50 degree programs to as many as 6,000 students by the year 2030.

They say they would eventually like to build a new centre for advanced technology at Georgian’s Barrie campus and a design and visual arts facility with a hub in downtown Barrie.

There is a separate plan in the works by Laurentian University to build a university campus in Barrie.
