King Charles III Coronation medal awarded to dedicated residents
Twenty-five community-minded people received royal recognition for their contributions to society.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal was awarded to residents of Barrie, Springwater and Oro-Medonte by MP Doug Shipley and MPP Doug Downey for their outstanding contributions to the community, the region, and Canada at large.
“Today, we are celebrating individuals who go above and beyond to make our country a better place,” said Shipley. “These recipients have not only contributed to their communities, but they have done so with unwavering dedication, passion, and a commitment to creating positive change. I am proud to be able to recognize their outstanding achievements.”

The ceremony was attended by family members and friends who gathered to celebrate the exceptional achievements of each of the recipients.
“This award allows us to acknowledge the incredible work these recipients do throughout the community,” said Downey. “The contributions that these individuals have made has left a positive impact across our communities. I am grateful to be able to honour and celebrate their achievements in such a meaningful way.”
Eligibility and criteria
- Eligible candidates must meet the following national criteria:
- Have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada, and
- Be alive on 6 May 2023. The award can be made posthumously, as long as the candidate was alive on that date.
- The list of partners in this medal program and their allocation of medals have been confirmed. During the anniversary year, 30,000 medals will be awarded, of which 4,000 will recognize members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).
