Four Barrie-area wrestlers have qualified for the 2014 Ontario Winter Games being held in March in Huntsville.
Athletes from the K-Bay Wrestling Club and Barrie Central Collegiate Institute participated in the 2013 Mariposa Classic Central East Ontario Championships Wrestling Tournament in Orillia.
That event was a qualifier for the Winter Games.
Wrestlers from Barrie have had great early-season results:
First Place:
- Riley Leech (Cadet Males-58kg)
- Cameron Mulholland (Cadet Male-54kg)
- Daniel Conroy (Cadet Male-66kg)
- Joshua Walton (Cadet Male-46kg)
- Taylor Cartwright (Juvenile Female-60kg)
Second Place:
- Amanie McLaren(Juvenile Male-66kg)
- Samantha Henry (Cadet Female-60kg)
- Morgan Menke(Juvenile Female-52kg)
- Patrick Ivany (Cadet Male-Hwt.)
Third Place:
- Matthew Eliot (Cadet Male-66kg)
Gryphon LaLonde also competed at this event.
As 1st place Cadet age-group winners, Leech, Mulholland, Conroy, and Walton qualified for the 2014 Ontario Winter Games.
The other wrestlers will have to compete at the Ontario Cadet Championships qualification.
