A 25-year-old man is facing a murder charge after a man was killed in his apartment south of Owen Sound Sunday morning.
Officers with the Hanover Police Service and OPP say the body of a 51-year-old Richard Connor was found with signs of trauma in his apartment on 9th Avenue in the community of Hanover.
Investigators say the suspect fled the apartment on foot through a back alley down 10th Ave. through downtown Hanover and they were able to track him because he left a trail of blood.
The drops of blood led police to a house where he gave himself up to police. He has been identified as 25-year-old Matthew Lantz from Hanover and charged him with first degree murder. According to police the two men knew each other.
Jeanette Cain is relatively new to the neighbourhood and finds it difficult to understand why anybody would hurt the man who lived next door.
“What was the motive? Because he was a nice guy, I don't think he would hurt a fly.”
Another neighbour, Gary Etmanski, says he was a friendly face in the neighbourhood.
“Ya, our dogs got along well, he was out here every day talking to people I haven't heard a bad thing about him.”
Lantz was remanded in custody and will make his next court appearance April 10th
While police have one man in custody their investigation is still very much active, anybody with information about what happened here is asked to contact Hanover Police or Crime Stoppers
