Police release identities of 3 men charged in Sharif Rahman homicide investigation
Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) revealed new details at a press conference held Wednesday about the homicide investigation of Sharif Rahman, the restaurant owner who was fatally assaulted last year.
Investigators said three men attended Rahman’s restaurant on Aug. 17, 2023, and attacked him outside his establishment following a dispute over a bill.
Rahman was rushed to the hospital where police say he later passed away of his injuries. He was 44.
On Wednesday, police said three men from the United Kingdom had been charged in connection with Rahman’s death.
Police said the suspects had left the country following the alleged assault, “prompting OPP and OSPS to collaborate with international partners to coordinate the arrests overseas.”
Robert Evans, 24 is charged with manslaughter, while Robert Busby Evans, 47, and Barry Evans, 54, are both charged with accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offence.
Police say the men are currently before the courts in relation to extradition.
“The are no timelines available for the extradition of the accused individuals,” police stated in a release.
"We are pleased to provide some long-awaited insight into the investigation and the court process in order for our community to continue to heal," said Owen Sound Police Chief Craig Ambrose.
"This complex investigation was successfully resolved thanks to the dedicated coordination and hard work of multiple police services and partners. This case underscores the critical importance of strong relationships among local and international law enforcement agencies," stated OPP Deputy Commissioner Marty Kearns.
