A Huntsville man is facing charges in connection with a historic sexual assault investigation involving a complainant who police say was a child at the time.

The Muskoka Crime Unit arrested the 59-year-old man on Tuesday.

According to investigators, a seven-year-old child was sexually assaulted in Huntsville in July 2015, but the allegations weren't reported to police until eight years later.

“There is no statute of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed,” OPP stated. “You can report a sexual assault by calling the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 911 in an emergency.”

Police say an OPP sketch artist worked with the complainant to create a likeness of the suspect. The sketch was released to the public in June.

The man accused in the case is facing charges of sexual assault with a weapon on a person under 16, sexual interference, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
