A father and daughter suffered minor injuries after a small plane crashed west of Orangeville on Friday afternoon.
Provincial Police the plane went down at the Rainbow Ridge Campground near Dufferin County Road 109 around 12:30 p.m.
“I ran out to make sure they were okay and that it was only two occupants and no fuel leaking and made sure they were away from the plane in case it started leaking,” said Dave Gatti.
Don and Kathryn Buchan were duo in the plane and both have extensive flying experience.
“They were flying to Ottawa, they left from a little air strip by Grand Valley, in the air about two kilometres when all of a sudden mechanical failure,’ says Dufferin OPP Constable Paul Nancekivell.
The plane clipped a hydro pole as it was coming down, narrowly missing a trailer at the campground.
Both the father and daughter were able to escape the wreckage with minor injuries; the daughter has a sore leg.
Fire officials were called to the campground to clean up a small fuel spill caused by the crash and Hydro One has cleaned up the downed power lines.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will be investigating.
