A driver is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly driving across the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment’s lawn in Midland Saturday evening.

Police say patrolling officers were passing the detachment on Highway 12 at around 9:30 p.m. and observed a full-sized pickup truck attempting to negotiate a route from a nearby hotel. The vehicle allegedly drove through the lawns of both the detachment and a neighbouring car dealership.

The officers stopped the pickup truck and observed that its driver, the lone occupant, displayed strong signs of alcohol consumption.

The driver was arrested and ushered inside the Southern Georgian Bay detachment for a breath sample, where police say he blew ‘many times’ above the legal limit.

The 31-year-old driver from Parry Sound was charged with operation while impaired and operation over 80 milligrams. His license was suspended for 90 days, and his pickup truck was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled for a Midland court date in late November.
