Construction on one of Barrie’s busiest roads is about to get even bigger.

Essa Road between Gowan Street and Burton Avenue has been closed for nearly two months now, while improvements are made to the drainage system.

The construction has forced anybody looking to cut through the city to get downtown or access the GO station to detour through several side streets.

Beginning on Monday, the city will expand its closure of Essa to include everything from Gowan to Anne Street.  This is for the second phase of the project.

Innisfil Street between Essa and Caroline Street will also be closed.

On a positive note, the intersection of Essa and Anne will remain open. The same will happen at the intersection of Gowan and Essa.

The project is expected to wrap up in December.
